Ding, dong, DADT is dead!

About Me

First of all, though I style myself The Confirmed Bachelor, I’m actually what some might call a bachelorette.  (Diminutive suffixes aren’t my thing.) Obviously I’m not a true bachelor because I have a partner, but the military (and most US states) completely missed that memo.

I’m a recent college grad, working in media with one eye on law school. Right now, I live in a group house in an East Coast city with five other vegan/vegetarian radical ladies. But in a few months, I’ll be moving to where my partner lives.

I grew up on Army bases. Now, my girlfriend (known to you only as Captain Awesome) is in the Army.  She looks ridiculously sexy in her beret, and I love a woman in uniform, but not being able to be with her publicly is definitely A Major Problem. As someone who was never closeted, I have huge lifestyle issues with Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Also, I’m nervous about living in the same house with her in such a small town. I have sworn that I will not rest until the law is repealed.

  1. I love your blog!
I am a Navy girlfriend (she’s about to go to bootcamp) and the realities of DADT are dawning on me and already starting to suck BIG TIME.
I know the times she is away your blog will be one of the things I can draw some strentgh from :)

  2. Yay! I’m glad you found it! It’s us that I’m writing for.

I had the same thing — I met Captain Awesome a while before she went off to training. Write your lady lots of letters in boot camp….she’ll appreciate it. But, that’s where you’ll first start learning how to deal with DADT– you write a letter and then realize you can’t risk sending it because it’s just so gay.

We can only hope it will end sometime next year….

    Hey, you –

We should get together and carve pumpkins or something. It’s a pumpkin-carving time of year but it’s kind of a drag doing it by yourself and most people are too high-nosed to carve pumpkins after like, age 13. You don’t seem high-nosed – whaddaya think? By the way, leaving these public messages in random places is kind of awkward – in order to leave a message I have to submit my email address – you should email me! :)
